Natural Communities of NH -- Photo Guide

Oxbow marsh

Note: This is no longer considered a distinct natural community type.

Oxbow marshes occur statewide in old river channel scars on floodplains. They are similar to other shallow and deep emergent marshes, but the flood regime of the rivers affects vegetation composition of each marsh and they contain a different suite of species.
